Giving

Giving FAq:

What does the Bible say about giving?

The key to giving is to do so cheerfully as an act of sacrifice and an act of worship. Giving sacrificially as we feel led by God allows Him to use our giving to bring about a great harvest in the lives of others and in His church. The pattern of Christian giving is not one of box-checking and obligations. It is a daily lifestyle of kindness and generosity flowing from the Spirit which dwells within us.

When we give to New Hope Church, it is because this is where God has led us and we want to be a part of the great work he is doing through our church body. If we simply give an obligatory dollar amount on Sundays, but then walk out and live ungrateful lives Monday through Saturday because we have ‘met our obligation’, we have missed the point entirely. God deserves all we are, not just a dollar amount once a week.

The bottom line is that we are to give cheerfully and generously, ‘as we feel led in our heart to give.’ When we truly do this, it causes us to stay in tune with the Holy Spirit and focused on where God would have us use our offerings for his glory and not our own.

How much should I give?

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7

The New Testament writers had many opportunities to teach and require percentage giving, yet they don't do it. They instead encouraged believers to give all they had to God and to others. The old law required giving 10% of the harvest to the theocratic government of Israel. It was used to care for the Levites who served in the temple and as a gift to God. The concept was one that said, tithe to the Temple and do what you will with the rest.

In Christ, we no longer live under a ‘90/10’ arrangement, but prayerfully give God 100% of all we are and all we have - all the time. Christ came to fulfill the Law, and everything, including each breath, is from Him and belongs to Him. From our perspective, sometimes our giving may look like a lot, sometimes it may look like a little. But when we give as God leads, we may never know the full extent of how our gifts are used for Him.

May I choose where my donation goes? What core ministries and missions are supported by my gift?

God is blessing New Hope Church with many exciting ministries! In order to enable these ministries to continue to thrive, there are multiple ways in which you may direct your giving:

Our General Fund supports many of the ministries of the church including:

Preaching and Teaching

Children’s Ministries (Sunday School, Amplify, and New Hope Beginnings Preschool)

Youth Ministry (Magnify and Electrify)

Missions – (support for missionary partners and ministry partners – you can find out more information about our partners HERE)

Church staffing and facilities

Our Building Fund helps us prepare to minister to people who aren’t yet at New Hope Church. As the church continues to “Help People Find and Follow Jesus”, we need to prepare our campus and facilities for our growing body.

Our Agape Fund is an important fund used to minister to people of our community and within our church body who are facing emergency or crisis situations. Distributions from this fund are made by the Elder Board and follows the principle of Matthew 6:3-4 “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

In addition to these designated funds, New Hope Church from time to time will promote giving for specific reasons.

Does online giving devalue the worship aspect of giving?

New Hope Church offers several different ways by which to give. Our intent is to give you the freedom to give at the times and in the ways which work best for you. Giving through our online or Elexio app in no way devalues the worship aspect of giving. Worshipping through giving is experienced as we reflect on the fact that God is the Creator of all things and He provides for our every need. In response, we then joyfully return to him a portion of what He has provided. This worship experience can occur at the time we enter our giving online, at the time we receive income and set aside our “first fruits”, or during a few moments of silence as offering bags are passed on Sunday mornings.

Do I pay any additional fees to give online?

No, there is no additional fees paid by online givers. However, there is a service charge paid by New Hope Church for giving received via credit card transactions. The amount of this fee is approximately $3 for every $100 given.

May I set up recurring donations?

Absolutely, through the “Give” options on our Elexio app and online through our website you will find the options to setup weekly, biweekly, or monthly recurring donations.

Is my credit card or bank information safe?

Yes, online giving utilizes a 256 Bit SSL encrypted connection that encrypts all financial information sent to our servers and to the payment gateway. This information remains private and will never be given to third parties, other than to process your scheduled contributions. Donations made online or on the app are processed by Elexio Giving. No credit or bank account information is stored on the New Hope Church’s systems. Elexio Giving is a Level 1 PCI Compliant Service Provider.
